Ayurveda – The Science of Life

What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a system of medicine & lifestyle that developed thousands of years ago in India. It is a holistic approach to healthcare that helps people live long, healthy, and well-balanced lives.  Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest medical systems and remains one of India’s traditional health care systems.

It is a rich heritage and has a vast scientific system. The word “ayurveda” is Sanskrit: Āyurveda, meaning knowledge of life and longevity.

The two main guiding principles of Ayurveda are:

  1. The mind and the body are interconnected
  2. Nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind

According to Ayurvedic philosophy, a disease is a reflection of the state of our consciousness and how we live, health is the end result of a harmonious life.

 


 

Medical & Physical

Ayurveda relies on a holistic approach to physical and mental health. Ayurvedic treatment combines products (mainly derived from plants, but may also include animal) diet, exercise, and lifestyle.

Vedic knowledge has a comprehensive view of health as a positive state, it focuses on a blissful and abundant life. It further exemplifies cooperation of empirical and intuitive knowledge, and attention to both earthly and spiritual concerns.

Ayurveda with its two aspects medical and spiritual says that a person’s health can be seen as diagnosed health and true health.

The diagnosed health is the physical health of the person. Even if a person’s diagnosed health is good, they may still not feel vibrant and whole.

Both the medical and spiritual aspects of Ayurveda bring its main theme to light, which is to educate people to take control of their own health. This can be achieved by monitoring and balancing one’s nutritional and lifestyle habits. This helps in healing one’s own body, prevent illness and develop longevity. Balancing the lifestyle helps in developing intuition, which in turn helps a person to recognize the subtle health disturbances in their own body rather than relying on another person.

 


 

Take Control

When a person is able to take control of their health, it inspires self-empowerment. It further develops faith in one’s own intuitive abilities. When a person realizes that they can take control of their own health and see the positive results of their efforts, it further enhances their faith in themselves. 

When the doubts are dispelled, it creates more clarity in life, confidence, and mental peace begins to develop. Doubts are mental agitation. When a person is in self-realization, one knows the truth in its eternal nature and does not get agitated or swayed. As self-realization and self-worth develops in a person, it becomes difficult to get agitated or swayed by the environment a person is living in.

 


 

Harmony & Health

Ayurveda helps in developing a person not just physically and mentally but spiritually and it all starts with the lifestyle of a person. Ayurveda views disease as a natural expression of the body, mind and heart living in disharmony. 

Each individual is different, therefore discomfort and disharmony is experienced differently. From this perspective, every Ayurvedic treatment has to be different- it is individualized and specific to you.

Where there is harmony, there is health, and where there is disharmony, there is disease. Ayurveda works to help a person to bring the life back into harmony.
